Family overview

What are AISC ST Tees?

AISC ST-shapes are tees cut from S-shapes for specialty framing. Designations follow depth × weight naming derived from the parent S series. Because S flanges slope, ST geometry differs from WT tees cut from W-shapes. Use this hub to filter ST tees, compare nearby sizes and hand a selection to the calculator.

Understanding ST Tees designations

ST6×17.5

ST designations follow the depth × weight pattern, such as ST6×17.5, derived from the parent S-shape.

Selection

How to compare ST Tees

  • Confirm ST versus WT when modern W-derived tees may be preferred.
  • Compare stem and flange dimensions carefully.
  • Review flexural properties about the intended axis.
  • Analyze finalists under consistent loading.

Questions & answers

ST Tees FAQs

What is an AISC ST-shape?

An ST-shape is a structural tee cut from an S-shape.

How do ST and WT tees differ?

ST tees come from S-shapes with sloping flange heritage; WT tees come from parallel-flange W-shapes.

Can I analyze an ST in Optimal Beam?

Yes. Select the tee and choose Analyze.

Where do ST properties come from?

Properties are imported from the AISC Shapes Database edition shown in the source note.
