Australia steel shapes

The Australian catalog contains 443 unique sections imported from Sheet1 through Sheet19 of the supplied Australian-Sections workbook. It covers universal beams, columns and bearing piles; welded beams and columns; column cores; taper-flange beams and channels; beam and column tees; equal and unequal angles; and RHS, SHS and CHS. Repeated hollow-section designations in the later sheets are deduplicated without changing their reviewed values. Sheet20 is intentionally excluded. Metric source values remain canonical, while imperial values are derived for the unit switcher and calculator handoff. Confirm critical dimensions, material grade, product standard and current availability against the applicable project source before final design or fabrication.

Understanding Australia designations

Australian designations in the supplied workbook are metric. Rolled and welded I-sections commonly include nominal depth and mass, while angles and hollow sections list their principal dimensions.

Data notes

Australia data notes

  • The Australian library contains 443 unique sections across 15 visible families.
  • Only Sheet1 through Sheet19 are imported. Sheet20 is a separate consolidated calculator table and is intentionally excluded.
  • The RHS, SHS and CHS sheets contain 64 repeated designations. Their values match exactly, so one row per designation is retained and the later sheet takes source precedence.
  • Source z-p properties are mapped to the finder x axis, and source y-p properties are mapped to the finder y axis. The mapping is retained in each imported record.
  • The source Syp and Szp values are plastic section moduli and are mapped to Zy and Zx. Elastic section moduli are derived only where the supplied geometry defines the relevant extreme-fibre distance.
  • Mass is read from mass-based designations where present; otherwise it is derived from the published area using a steel density of 7,850 kg/m³.
  • Metric values are canonical. Imperial values are derived for display and calculator compatibility.

Australia FAQs

How many Australian sections are included?

The Australian catalog contains 443 unique sections across 15 rolled, welded, angle, tee, channel and hollow-section families.

Which workbook sheets are included?

Sheet1 through Sheet19 are imported. Sheet20 is intentionally excluded because it is a separate consolidated calculator table rather than a family source table.

Why are some hollow-section rows deduplicated?

The workbook repeats 64 RHS, SHS and CHS designations in later sheets. The repeated property values match exactly, so the catalog keeps one section per designation.

What are BT and CT sections?

BT sections are tees cut from universal beams, while CT sections are tees cut from universal columns. They remain separate families in the finder.

What is the difference between TFB and CH?

TFB is a taper-flange I-beam family. CH is a taper-flange channel family with one web and two flanges on the same side. Their schematics and properties are not interchangeable.

Can Australian sections be analyzed in Optimal Beam?
